The New Respects Kick Off Great BMI Lineup at Lollapalooza
August 2nd, 2019 and the BMI stage is set for day number two of another incredible day at Lollapalooza. Kicking things off with a family band called, The New Respects from Nashville, Tennessee set the tone for what was to be the best day yet for BMI.
Consisting of Jasmine Mullen (singer), Alexis Fitzgerald (bass), Alexandria Fitzgerald (guitar), and drummer Darius Fitzgerald, the band are just as closely knit musically as they are siblings.
Their performance was flawless and filled with high energy which got the audience clapping, dancing and swaying along with their soulful pop grooves.
The set was 40 minutes, but I swear it did not feel like it. Cutting through hits like “We Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” and “Hands Up”, The New Respects made every minute of their set count and had the audience surrendering to their music, eagerly.
Along with their great original music, was a soulful cover of “Come Together” which had everyone singing along with.
The band’s stage presence matched the energy levels of their music, dancing and synching their moves together on stage and smiling the whole time through.
They ended their set with their song, “Freedom” which turned up the heat and riled up the audience even further with their heavy riffs. I would love to point out individual musicians in this band, like Alexandria and how she shredded her guitar especially on her solos, but then I can’t forget about how Alexis’ bass really gave their sound the depth and power that was further accentuated by Darius’ tight and hard-hitting drums. And, of course the icing on the cake was Jasmine’s vocals along with everyone else’s vocals too… They are all exceedingly talented musicians that play exceedingly well on their own, but they really shine best together as one (family) band.
