Tempest – Sorry To Say (Official Music Video)
Biography: Born and raised in Long Beach, California to a Jamaican mother and a Nigerian father, Tempest was immersed in music at a young age. She grew up listening to different artists and sounds that have been integral to her artistic journey – her father, a DJ with Brooklyn roots, helped nurture her taste for music. While in High School Tempest found her love for music production and became the go-to source for many of her friends due to her digital crate-digging on HotNewHipHop, DigitalDripped, and Datpiff.
She participated in Long Beach’s LAMP program where she was exposed to different artistic avenues and was able to tap into her creativity. Which led to her participation with the GRAMMY Museum and sharing the stage with Kelly Rowland and Boys ll Men, performing a Motown tribute for Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson, and spoken word poetry for Michelle Obama.
Shortly thereafter, Tempest started to experiment with producing and deejaying which resulted in performances throughout Los Angeles. Including a slot at Coachella 2020, however, the ongoing worldwide pandemic forced her to reinvent herself. With her namesake’s tenacity, Tempest started writing music that was immensely inspired by James Fauntleroy in February of 2020, released her first single this past July, and has continued to hone her craft as a singer-songwriter ever since.
Tempest embodies self-empowerment and “millennial soul” while evading genre and pushing boundaries with her authentic and emotionally powerful songs. She’s a fiercely talented, independent, and aquatic free spirit with a “getting it, by any means necessary” mentality that makes her a prolific young talent and a strong contender as an artist to watch in 2021.
