Slowthai Live at Metro [REVIEW]

By: Dane Roberts

slowthai the Northhampton based rapper was featured at The Metro last Saturday for an energetic concert. He’s on the road for his “Antisocial Roadshow” tour which consists of major U.S and Canadian cities as well as Coachella for the month of April. slowthai also just finished the UK/IE leg of the tour in March titled “Hell Is Home”.

After releasing his forthcoming album, ‘Tyron’ in February of last year, slowthai gained mainstream popularity in the states as the album featured legends like A$AP Rocky, Denzel Curry, James Blake, and more. slowthai fit perfectly at The Metro as his energy and stage presence was playful, energetic, and interactive. Red flashing lights, light smoke, and a hype DJ really set up the show for success.

The audience on the floor were all dedicated fans, knew every word and brought amazing energy to the show. From crowd surfing to singing directly at fans on the floor and above the balcony, there wasn’t a moment of the show without momentum, there was even a part where he compared the differences of cookies to biscuits, a perfect lesson in British culture from slowthai.

slowthai’s set was an energy-packed eighteen songs with each song getting progressively more and more hype for the crowd. A definite highlight was his collab with Mura Musa, phonetically spelled, “Deal Wiv It”. The performance was a unique one with mainly talk-rapping in the verses and the chorus and a staccato beat rhythm in between that allowed the whole venue to dance in sync. slowthai’s energy was unmatched at The Metro that night and attending his shows will a provide an undeniably lit party.
