FEATURED ARTIST – Xavier White
Interview with Xavier White
By: Dennis M. Kelly
Dennis: Good day Xavier, how are you today?
Xavier: I’m doing great!
Dennis: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions today! So, what have you been working on lately?
Xavier: I’ve been recently working on making a deep house album that’s currently in the works.
Dennis: Sounds great, I can’t wait to hear it! So take me back to the beginning for you and music, when did music first make an impact on your life?
Xavier: Music first impacted me probably around the age of 15.
Dennis: When did you first realize that you wanted to be a singer?
Xavier: I’d have to say inspiration came from my cousin Josh, he was a DJ and always gave me a taste of the music business at a young age.
Dennis: With a voice as smooth and powerful as yours, you ‘have’ to have had vocal lessons, right?
Xavier: I’ve had vocal lessons from elementary school to high school so definitely yes!
Dennis: Thought so, that is great though, and you have a great voice! How supportive of your music was your family growing up?
Xavier: My family was supportive, especially my mom, grandma and cousins.
Dennis: That is great to see and very helpful indeed. Is anyone else in your family musically inclined as well?
Xavier: Yes Josh, my pops who will bust out a country song here and there on a drive back from the casino and also my mom a little.
Dennis: What would be the best tip you could share with aspiring singers to get the most out of their vocals?
Xavier: Sing from your heart.
Dennis: Let’s talk about your songs, how do you approach your songwriting?
Xavier: I approach my song writing by simply telling the story of how I feel at the current time.
Dennis: Have there ever been times where you struggled to have a song convey the meaning or emotion the way you really wanted? Or does it come pretty naturally for you?
Xavier: There have been times that I’ve struggled trying to put it together, but I end up coming out with it in the end.
Dennis: Where do you record your music?
Xavier: I’m currently recording my music at Savannah Records.
Dennis: Now, you’ve got a number of great singles and two EP’s, “Love Questions” and “Cancer Vs. Gemini”, when can we expect a full length release from you?
Xavier: This year I’m releasing my first ever album and I’m excited about it.
Dennis: How involved do you personally get in the music business side of things?
Xavier: I try to stay out of the music business, but I know so much now being around it for so long, I sometimes hand off the more involved issues to my managers Tom and Mike.
Dennis: How about music videos, how involved in the direction of your music videos do you get?
Xavier: I like to be involved when I need more creativity in the music video!
Dennis: How often do you perform? And aside from SXSW, have you performed much outside of New York yet?
Xavier: I’ve performed in CA, FL, TX and PA, so yes!
Dennis: Cool, you’ll have to make a stop here in Illinois sometime soon then too! What are some of your long term goals that you’d like to see yourself accomplish in the next 10 years or so and what steps do you think you’ll have to take to accomplish them?
Xavier: Being on the road touring singing and giving people love and energy.
Dennis: On the flip side to my previous question, what are some short term questions you’d like to accomplish this year?
Xavier: I never see short term, I’m always seeing the bigger picture.
Dennis: Is there anything more you’d like to share with our readers today?
Xavier: Be on the lookout for more music coming very soon!
Dennis: Thank you so much Xavier once again and all the best to you in your career!
Xavier: Thank you Dennis!
