Blues Jams Really Rock the House/Sir Paul-McCartney’s
Ultimate Tribute
I
had the good fortune of discovering that The Rustic
Inn in Wilmington started their annual run of
blues jams this past Friday. There were some excellent
players there of course but, more importantly,
there was a feeling for the blues that was just
amazing to me. The excitement there brought back
memories as a new player and how great it was
to be on stage and playing with all the energy
you could muster. The jam was hosted by JD King,
Dave Wilson, Andy Ross (Eat A Peach), Brian and
Bill Jackson on drums. There was an older gentleman,
Mike Gurosh, that had only been playing guitar
for 16 months and I was totally impressed. Some
of the southside blues jam regulars were there,
ie, Billy King, Ken MacTennah, Bob Savage, Gregg
(harp) and guys I’ve seen at Tommy’s Place in
Blue Island and other jams. These jams might not
be as big of a show as going to Buddy Guy’s or
seeing BB King but let me tell you, there was
no shortage of talent and intensity in the music.
So, if you get the chance, get out to a local
jam near you and support the blues…these jams
help keep it alive.
On
a side note, I saw the new line-up for Sir Paul-McCartney’s
Ultimate Tribute at Tommy’s Place in Blue Island
on Saturday and though the crowd was a bit thin,
these guys rocked it pretty hard playing with
a passion for the music, not just the crowd. I
know it’s not blues but hey, good local talent
should be acknowledged and these guys are good
and work hard for you. Their website is www.sirpaultributeband.com
so visit and…support local music.
Yours
in the blues,
Don Clydeo
