"Are you thinking What I'm Thinking?"
By: Dennis M. Kelly

Some
say that the so-called 'chick rock" is getting
out of hand; that there are far too many girl bands
out there already. But then comes a band like THE LIKE,
that comes into the scene with their first full length
release entitled Are You Thinking What I am Thinking?
(Geffen) and they just make you thankful that these
girls do in fact ROCK!
'THE LIKE consists of Z Berg, lead vocals and guitar,
Charlotte Froom on bass, and Tennessee Thomas on drums
and you can feel their chemistry flow right off the
album. Berg's vocals, Froom's bass and Thomas' drums
complement each other in a way that feels 'just right"
when you listen to their album, not too much or too
little of any one thing. Berg's vocals glide over her
melodic guitar ever so gracefully, but don't be fooled,
because she has an equally powerful voice that would
give a seasoned pro a run for their money. Froom's bass
has a smooth, steady rhythm and keeps in perfect synch
with Thomas's tight, yet artistic style of drumming.
Produced by an original member of Prince and the Revolution,
Wendy Melvoin, co-produced by John Goodmanson (Blonde
Redhead, Bikini Kill, Deathcab for Cutie), and mixed
in London by Alan Moulder who has worked for bands like
Jesus and the Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine, this
album has been crafted by some pretty big names in music
and it definitely shows. The majority of the album is
based on good, solid rock-n-roll and power ballad styled
tunes with a pop flair that will appeal to a very large
audience. Their sound is easily acceptable and enjoyable
to listen to at any time of the day. And for these girls
to have just graduated High School only last year, I
feel they've mastered the sound, the sound of success…
way to go girls!
THE LIKE are currently on tour, opening for Tori Amos
and will be coming to the Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago
on August 31st, I encourage you all to go check them
out if you can.
