Heart
"Jupiter's Darling"
Review by: Linda Grant

Heart, one of the defining bands of Rock & Roll, satisfied the cravings of their multi-generational legion of fans with the release of their CD “Jupiter’s Darling,” on June 22, 2004, the first studio album by the band’s creative forces Ann & Nancy Wilson in more than a decade.

Produced by Nancy Wilson with Craig Bartock, “Jupiter’s Darling” showcases the passionate and powerful vocals and searing guitar playing of sisters Ann & Nancy Wilson in a CD that is a Rock-n-Roll tour de force—both intrinsically Heart and ultimately contemporary. Playing on the record with Ann & Nancy are Mike Inez (Alice In Chains) on bass, co-producer/co-writer Craig Bartock on guitar, Ben Smith (Lovemongers) on drums and keyboardist Darian Sahanaja) Brian Wilson, (Wondermints.) Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) and Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains) contribute guest appreances on guitar.

Heart emerged on the national scene in 1976 with the release of the album “Dreamboat Annie,” featuring their chart-topping singles “Magic Man,” ‘Crazy on You” and the title track, “Dreamboat Annie.” The LP established what would become Heart’s signature sound: Ann’s soaring, powerful vocals, Nancy’s versatile multi-instrumentation and melodic songwriting that was instantly memorable.

The follow-up album, “Little Queen,” released in 1977, cemented the ban’s reputation as one of the leading purveyors of rock-n-roll. The album’s breakout single “Barracuda,” also underscored a remarkable fact: The band was led by two distaff rockers who could compete on any level with their male counterparts but with their own unique delivery. There was no mistake that theses were WOMEN making rock!

Over the years, the band has released dozens more albums, sold 30 million records, had 21 top 40 hits and continues to sell out sheds across the Untied Stated. The band’s profound influence on contemporary music is seen in the current generation of female rock, pop, and country superstars who cite the Wilson sisters as both their mentors and dominate influence.

During the 90’s Ann & Nancy took time to pursue solo gigs. Nancy scored three films (“Jerry Maguire,” “Almost Famous,” “Vanilla Sky”) for her husband, Oscar-winning filmmaker Cameron Crowe, and will also contribute score for his next film “Elizabethtown” due in 2005. Ann made her theatrical debut in “Teatro Zinzanni,” and toured the U.S. and Japan with an all-star ensemble company in “Abbey Road: A Tribute to the Beatles.” In 2002 and 2003 they reformed HEART and performed for more than 500,00 fans.
On Tour now with ‘Jupiter’s Darling,” Heart has sold out Chicago’s House of Blues, but you experience the Queens of RAWK buy buying this outstanding CD wherever CD’s are sold.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! They were not dubbed “Little Zeppelin” by John Paul Jones for nothing!
