Peter Case – The Man with the Blue Post Modern Fragmented Neo-Traditionalist Guitar

From 1989 on Geffen. Peter, where did this name come from? Sorry, I just had to ask. Peter surrounds himself with some world-class musicians on this. My first thought was it’s a very self-serving run, aren’t all albums? He’s got David Hidalgo and Ry Cooder on guitars and Jerry Scheff on upright bass, Danny Timms on piano and the list goes on. Listening to “Charlie James” made me feel I was sitting on a dusty road somewhere in northern California just listening to the trains go by in the background. The majority of the cd sounds like a bold, progressive move from the late 60’s to the late 70’s and I think it was done quite well. Nice vocals, great tunes, world-class musicians and just a great southern rock, blues, folk, and even Cajun feel but with a signature sound that seems to be all of Peter’s own. Reluctantly I listened to this but I have since listened over and over…I think you will, too. Once again Peter, where did you come up with this album title?
