An Interview with:
Dave Reilly from Rebel Access TV

How did Rebel Access T.V. get it's start?
I have been working with Scott Davidson for the last 11 years, before that with Scott Loftus, before that, I had my own Cable show, The Half Hour Happy Hour. All the time during I have been going to concerts and major sports events bringing in my camera. Most of the time getting kicked out. So with that said, and the all late night conversations I had with Scott I decided to go with REBEL Access T.V. as my next project. My goal was to help book rock bands at different clubs.

What is the format of REBEL Access T.V.?
One week we play Hard Rock Videos, and the next week we feature a band for the half hour show. Usually the band format for a National band starts with the video, into the interview, then live performance footage. The Local bands have the same if they have a video, if not just more live performance footage. A big goal is to show the under 21 crowd what the scene is like. I would like to hope that my show inspires some one person to stay with the musical gift they were given, and not to give up to pressures that society brings.

How long has Rebel Access T.V. been on the air?
I launched both the website and the T.V. show a little more than a year ago.

Where can people find your show on T.V.?
On Comcast cable, Channel 19 every Sunday night at 10:00PM- opposite the news. I held out for that time slot.

Who have some of the larger acts been that you've interviews? Or played in studio?
Some of the National bands we have had on the T.V. show our first year included:
Arch Enemy, Behemoth, Brand New Sin, Chimera, Children of Bodom Devildriver, GWAR, God Forbid, Lamb of God, Kill Switch Engage, OPETH, Strapping Young Lad, Trivium, {Paul Chapman from UFO}

Do you have a personal favorite interview?
Well I admire many, many bands. I personally was really thrilled to have Devin Townsend on the show. He is one of the funniest guys both on and off stage I have ever met. Watch Them Die was another great funny interview. I was very impressed and honored with Dez from Devildriver, and the boys from Brand New Sin. I am really impressed with the European acts. We never have a language issue. Both Children of Bodom and Arch Enemy were great shows, and they both did great interviews. Opeth had a very relaxed interview before coming out with an intense show. I thought Nigel from Behemoth out of Poland was pretty eerie both on stage and with his videos. But instead he was so educated, and we really had a great talk with him. I made two great shows out of it. Nocturne was probably the most fun and laid back interview. Everyone we interview has been great.

Do you do many local videos? Interviews?
Hell Yeah we love to do local bands. The local bands get the same half hour feature we give the national bands. Minus the video if they don't have one. At the end of the show's credits I local bands to contact me. Also my website www.rebelaccess.com is another avenue. All I ask is they fit the format of rock. Any type of Rock.
.

How long does it take you to put a show together?
There are many variables on how long a show comes together. For a music show it's like I am back in my older DJ days, and I try to put together a great rock show. I get in this groove. Music Video shows I can put together in a few hours. Live bands shows could take me up to four hours. I lay down the music, then the camera angles over the previous track.

Who are your hosts?
I only have girls host the show. I believe my audience would rather see a girl host the show than see me. As much as I would like to, I never interview the bands. That is what sets the tone early on in the interview. Most bands would rather talk to a hot looking girl then me, "Mr. Know It All" From behind the camera; I have already set up a forum for a lite hearted, laid back, chat; instead of a typical interview. The only thing that is not "In Your Face" about my show is the interview with the band.

Do you allow viewers to become hosts?
Viewers are great hosts because they already know the format of the show. Friends see their friends on T.V. and think I can do that… Here is their chance. No experience is required and it's great fun.

How long have you personally been involved in music?
I started playing guitar in third grade. From all those early guitar lessons to the bands I was in, all the way to bands I worked on tours with. From DJ'ing weddings, and roller rinks, school dances and night clubs back to dj'ing on the radio, which then got me back into publishing and writing music articles which then got me back into a music T.V. show. I would say my answer is third grade.

What else have you done?
In my life? My life could be a very exciting book, or better yet a movie. Full of suspense, thrills, chills, romance, and some drama. It would have it all. A long haired Brad Pitt, or Johnny Depp are the closest actor resemblances that could play me in this movie. But until that movie or book deal comes through, I probably shouldn't disclose all that I have done, as to not incriminate myself.

What is the best part about doing your show?
The high I get from doing a really good show. I have my tv show on all the time at my house so I want a good show. When I was younger, I always wanted this kind of show on T.V. Closest thing we had was Don Krishner's Rock Concert. But my host's are much hotter than Don.

How do you promote the tv show?
Just as local bands do. I go out to the fan base and pass out swag. I go to every outdoor festival and find my fan base in every dark corner. I go to concerts and bars and hand out my swag. I go to Record stores, music stores, forest preserves, spreading the word. Plus with the internet sites on myspace and my www.rebelaccess.com. Just as any band here in Chicago knows, you have to work hard at it.

What is the worst part about doing your show?
I hate cold weather. I have been here my whole life, and I still dread it every year. The reason I quit DJ'ing is because I hated lugging my equipment in the cold, especially in the city with few parking options. Even fewer options with 2 or more inches of snow on the ground.

Do you offer any services to bands?
One of the things on my "list of things" to do for this show, is to offer more services for bands. I still have many, many directions I want to steer this animal into. I have set up small goals for myself, so I don't implode. For now I can only offer bands knowledge and advice from other bands via the interviews we have on the T.V. show. Plus I have the latest up to date rock news information on my websites.
