So,
first of all, congratulations on being chosen as Suburban Nitelife's
Best Original Band. How did that feel?
Naturally,
it was an honor. There are so many talented bands in this city.
You write, you perform, you try your hardest to get your music
heard, and to know that there are people who are not only willing
to give it a listen, but to take the time to vote and support
you, it's a great feeling.
How was Khaos Theory formed?
The
band was actually formed about two years ago. The only forming
members left are myself and the rhythm guitarist, Steve. We
were friends and starting jamming together, came across Pat
by a mutual friend, found Bob jamming in another band, and Max
joined by responding to an ad and auditioning. We are extremely
pleased with the current line-up. We are great friends and have
a blast working together. It's been a very positive experience
to date.
Do you all live in the suburbs? Or do some live in the
City also?
Three
of the five members live in the Suburbs. The remaining two live
in the city. We practice in Elmwood Park. We play the suburbs
and city.
Now,
Max (vocals) and Bob (bass) are the latest editions to the band,
how has the direction of the band changed since their arrival?
The
music has gotten a kick in the ass. The overall style has become
a bit more edgier. It's harder, rougher... a bit raw. There's
more of a collective input, and that comes through in the writing
process.
Now
Vince, I understand you've had some serious medical issues last
year, are you out of the woods with that now and doing much
better?
I
was diagnosed in 1999 with Thyroid cancer. Upon being operated
on and receiving treatments of radiation iodine, things were
going well. Last summer, during a routine examination, I was
informed that the cancer had returned, and I would once again,
be required to undergo another surgery. That was done in May
of last year. Since then, things have been well. I get regular
check-ups, keep tabs on things. You keep your fingers crossed.
The care and concern of so many has been very touching. I feel
well, things are good. I have a wonderful support system behind
me, and I keep a positive outlook. What can you do? You deal
the cards you have been handed, you keep your head up and you
move forward.
Well, I’m glad to see things are looking up for you
and your outlook is inspiring to say the least.
Now
you've got, Karnival of Chaos and a more recent 6-song CD out,
do you have any other releases available for people to hear?
We
have just released a two song demo that highlights some of the
newest material that we have been working on. We are also currently
heading back into the studio this month to record some more.
We are hoping for a full length release by late this year.
Where
can people purchase your CD's?
The CD's are not for sale. We have been handing them
complimentary. You may obtain one by contacting the band, either
by mail, on our website (www.KhaosTheaory.com),
our MySpace page (www.myspace.com/KhaosTheory)
or by contacting our management company, Eye II Eye Entertainment.
(EyeIIEyeEnt@aol.com
/ (707) 212-2687).
I
see you've got a show in Chicago on May 20th, and then one at
Penny Road Pub in June. Will there be any other shows in the
suburbs for us to look forward to?
More
shows are added to out site on a weekly basis. In addition to
the ones listed above, we are also looking at The Cubby Bear
on July 28th.
It
seems Khaos Theory is really big on a website called MySpace.com,
has it helped get the band more recognition?
MySpace
has been a great tool for promoting and pushing the band. We
have met many cool, very supportive people who have contacted
us from our site. It is a great way for any band to help spread
their name and get people to listen to their music.
What
is each of your other interests besides music?
We
all basically have the same outside interests. We all have families,
full time jobs. Most of us have children. The general interests,
on course, is music. We go out and support a lot of other local
bands. Then there is the general 'guy' stuff: motorcycles. I
love to ride; Pat does also and even owns his own. Steve is
a big fan of cars and digs working on them, restoring them.
We all dig sports: Wrestling, Football, Baseball, Hockey, Boxing,
Basketball, You name it. We're normal, down to earth guys. We
get up, go to work, support our families, and make music. We're
having fun, doing our thing. We can't complain.
Do
you all hang out a lot together when not practicing?
On
some sort of basis, at least some of us are together every weekend.
Rather it be hanging out at another local show, or just hanging
at someone's house, kicking back, watching flicks and such.
We practice three times a week, play about twice a month. All
our wives and girlfriends are friends; they hang out with one
another as well, so there's always something going on. You can
not work as closely as we do with one another, if you do not
give a mutual respect for one another, or a real friendship.
You become as close as family, these men, your band members,
become your brothers. That is a lesson well learned.
Is
there a so-called "leader" of the band? Or do you
all universally make decisions?
Everyone's
input is taken into consideration when it comes to the musical
side of things. Business side, well that is handled by our management,
Eye II Eye Entertainment. They book the shows; handle the web
sites and promotional needs, the mailing lists and phones calls.
Everyone has got to have a say, and no ones opinion matters
more than anyone else's. It will not work otherwise.
What
other bands have you all been in prior to Khaos Theory?
Beggar's
Day, Solid Waste, Indecent Exposure, Veilside and Sister Child.
So
now, what does the future hold for Khaos Theory? What are your
plans for the next 6 months?
We
are heading back into the studio to lay down some new tracks,
which will be available soon on our MySpace page and on our
website. We are playing the official 'Start of Summer' slam
at Penny Road at the end of June. We are currently in the process
of working on some all age shows, and have plans to head out
to some of the surrounding states, hooking up show dates with
some local bands that we have formed an alliance with.
Where
would you like to see yourselves in 2 years time?
Of
course, I believe any local band would have to admit that they
would like to see themselves signed to a major label, touring
major areas and opening for the biggest known band in the world.
We can all dare to dream, right? In reality, I would be happy
if we are all happy and healthy and doing well. Playing what
we wish to play, having the music heard, spreading the madness.
