Biography
“Why do they call you The Sausage King of Chicago?”
“What is The Sausage Committee about?” “Special Sauce?” These
are just a hand full of questions and remarks often tossed at
Abe Froman before a performance. “The name alone sparks controversy
and rightfully so…sex is a beautiful thing,” says Jack Linx,
a member of the Chicago based Hip-Hop group, The Sausage Committee.
The
Sausage Committee a/k/a The Committee is led by none other than
Abe Froman the Sausage King of Chicago. Commonly known as Froman,
Abe promises audiences nothing but sheer fun and enjoyment as
the group travels to different venues performing songs from
their highly anticipated album titled, Yes…Size Does Matter.
“‘Banger N Mash’ served with some ‘Special Sauce’ are the songs
that get the ladies blushing, the guys chuckling and the DJs
the response they need to pack the dance floors”, implies Froman,
a former DJ turned recording artist. Since his teens, Froman
has dee-jayed at clubs and house parties digging in the crates
spinning old school to Hip-Hop. Over the years, his ear has
led him to create the basic concept for Yes…Size Does Matter.
“Crime is at an all time high! Hating is at an all time high
and for what? People come to have a good time and that’s what
we’re about. Our music is an aphrodisiac for the confident sexy
woman and a memoir for the man satisfying her.” declares Froman.
Opening
for such well known Hip-Hop artists as Fat Joe and Jadakiss,
Froman generally preps the crowd before the group begins its
tirade on stage. “I don’t know what it is, but we tend to win
crowds over. Ok, it must be the sausage, it’s so universal”,
explains Sir Loin. Also known as Froman and the Sausage Committee
or simply Froman, the group’s performances are full of energy
and life. Each member: Frank Jumbo, Sir Loin, Jack Linx and
of course Abe Froman adds to the onstage mystic. Phil Brumant,
manager of Chicago’s Choices Night Club, has repeatedly invited
the group to participate in the venue’s showcases as a crowd
favorite. Reminiscent of such groups as Digital Underground,
Froman’s candid tale of fun and mischief is generating street
buzz throughout Chicago.
The
album, "Yes…Size Does Matter" is scheduled for released
in the latter half of 2006 introducing fresh club bangers for
the inquisitive female and the intuitive male. Such singles
as, “Pole Position” and “Banger N Mash” are receiving local
support from some of Chicago’s most popular DJs groups and college
radio stations (WHPK, WIIT etc...). The old adage of, “it's
not the size of the boat; it's the motion of the ocean” does
not necessarily apply in every case especially when listeners
concur that “Yes…Size Does Matter!”
Interview
questions for Froman
By Jina Kelly
1.
How and when did you start the group?
Abe Froman: We started a few years ago crafting
what would be the most essential album in the history of recorded
music. I envisioned a hip-hop group that towers over any other
group and would record music that shows women how real men really
appreciate them.
2.
Are you all from Chi-town? Or did you move here from somewhere
else? If so where?
Frank
Jumbo: I’m from Champaign, IL originally. Then I went
to school in the East St. Louis area and then I came up here
shortly after that. I’ve always been familiar with the Chi cause
my mom’s family is from here.
Abe
Froman: I’m born and raised on the south side…
Jack
Linx: I’m a youngster from the Maywood/Bellwood area.
We’re just about from all over it seems.
Sir
Loin: South side chi-izzle…
3.
How did you end up opening up for well known acts like "Fat
Joe"?
Jack
Linx: This industry is all about networking so we contacted
our Attorney, Heather Nelson who was involved with putting this
show together at the Congress Theater and the rest is history.
Abe
Froman: With most of the acts today doing some gangster
shit, I think they needed us to offset some of that violence
with some pure fun.
4. Do you guys have an official website yet?
www.sausagecommittee.com
http://www.myspace.com/thesausagecommittee
5. How does your fan base get in contact with you?
Frank
Jumbo: Through the myspace site or through e-mails.
Abe
Froman: Fellas can see us in the streets on the grind,
the ladies just have to dress and look sexy and we’ll find you.
Jack
Linx: Yeah the myspace hook up or contact our rep D.
Fields directly at whitfie@hotmail.com
for whatever.
6. Can you describe what kind of fans you have? Such as age,
guys vs. girls.
Abe
Froman: Yeah….we have a few female friends that are
popular models and they come to the shows to support, and the
guys that lust after them follow them to the shows.
Jack
Linx: I’ll say we have 61% girls vs. 39% guys in the
21+ age range. Surprisingly, we continue to attract the 30+
crowd and that’s probably because of the different spin we put
on songs and concepts. We know for a fact where ever the ladies
go the men will follow. Check our myspace site…its nuts.
Sir
Lion: Lots of females, lots of females….mid 20’s to
early 30’s …looking for sausages.
7.
What kind of venues do you like playing for?
Jack
Linx: We like performing at intimate/personable clubs
settings to be close to the crowd and our fans. It’s nothing
like receiving that “having fun” vibe and feedback from the
audience, it energizes the atmosphere. Don’t get us wrong a
big venue with a large stage and audience is grand too. We are
so energetic on stage. We play off of the crowd’s energy as
well as our own. Oh…you will feel the energy no doubt!
Frank
Jumbo: I just like a good-sized stage with cordless
mics.
8.
I have noticed from your EPK that you have mostly played in
Chicago, except for Boston and Atlanta. Do you have any plans
to play anywhere else?
Abe
Froman: The world is our oyster…so we’re collecting
pearls from Midwest first, then we’ll start collecting from
the east and west coast.
Frank
Jumbo: We working on Midwestern cities like Detroit,
St. Louis, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, etc….
9.
Where is your dream city to play at?
Frank
Jumbo: Personally I wanna play New York. I always heard
that if you gonna do something big then do it in NYC because
of all the media there. So expect to see the committee in the
papers when we finally play NYC.
Abe
Froman: I would love to rock London, because music
seems to be more appreciated across seas and they don’t get
wrapped up in the artist’s personal life. The music is what’s
important.
10. Who are your inspirations? Please explain individually.
Frank
Jumbo: Well my inspiration isn’t a who, it’s a what
and that is a state of being broke that I’m trying to cure myself
of. Musically, I’m a big fan of Chicago acts that have been
around for a while and people sleep on. Dave Hollister, Peven
Everett, Prime Meridian, SB, Juice, White Chalk, L.E. Mental,
Lupe, Spree Isreal, etc… On the national side I love the Living
Legends, Madlib, Ghostface and the Justice League…even the big
acts like Jay-Z, Outkast and Common. I’m more of a fan of songs
than acts.
Abe Froman: I’m always inspired by 9 to 5’ers.
The people that get up every morning and punch a clock at a
place they really don’t want to be. I’ve been that person and
I’m inspired not to go back to that. That’s motivation enough…
Jack
Linx: I may have to piggy back off Froman and Frank.
Definitely that grid lock Chicago morning and five O’Clock traffic
but more seriously the love for the music...not the game, the
music. I’m inspired by any artist that’s been in the game for
more than three albums and still going.
Sir Loin: Shit... really Nas and Hugh Hefner.
Nas helped me with my flow and Hugh Hefner helped me with the
motivation.
11.
What would you do when you achieve your goal as a band?
Frank
Jumbo: What would I do???? You mean besides the three
Chinese models I met in New York??? Nah, I’d smile and try to
show other young and hungry cats how to achieve their own goals.
Abe
Froman: Nothing…I always knew we’d make it.
Sir Loin: Just maintaining and help others
get in the game...cause everybody gotta eat.
Jack
Linx: celebrate for a minute and then get back in the
studio to cook up a new aroma for the people to vibe too. We’re
workaholics because we have fun at what we do.
12. How have your mix tapes entitled "Lollipop"
and "Big D's" been received?
Frank
Jumbo: Those were singles and they were received pretty
well. We still getting mileage off of them.
Abe
Froman: Yeah…it’s the excitement of something fresh
that peaks a persons interest. And once they hear the lyrical
professionalism, they’re hooked.
Jack
Linx: We’ve gotten some good responses from both singles.
We have two more we’re getting ready to drop this summer named
“Rotation” and “Pole Position”…lol. Rotation and Pole Position
are good follow ups to Big D’s and Lollipop. If you don’t know
what The Sausage Committee is about listen for our new summer
joints when they drop.
13.
Are either songs getting much airplay on any radio stations?
Abe
Froman: We’re starting to get spins on college stations
like Spin Club on WIIT and new music review on WKKC. But our
internet presence is huge (no pun intended).
14. What stage is your new album "Yes. Size Does
Matter" at? Are all the tracks recorded yet? Or still being
written?
Frank
Jumbo: It’s just about done. We still have a few tweaks
but not a lot.
15.
In your bio, you mention your lyrics "get the ladies blushing,
the guys chuckling and the DJs the response they need to pack
the dance floors". Is there a comical side to your songs
in any way or are you all more straight shooters?
Frank
Jumbo: Oh it’s hella comical. We talk more schit on
this album than most rappers do they whole careers. We probably
the most comical group to come along since Digital Underground.
We talk so much schit it would actually be hard to seriously
get offended.
Abe
Froman: We take great pride in being very creative
with the songs we write. It doesn’t take a lot of cussing to
get your point across…and we’ve mastered the art of cussing
without cussing. At the end of the record, you’ll know what
we’re talking about, no doubt.
16.
Where do you want to see yourselves in two years?
Frank
Jumbo: Selling millions of CDs, DVDs and so on. Also
setting up distribution for new acts and probably getting into
Hollywood. We are all natural actors/bullschitters.
Sir
Loin: Sitting real nice with about 2 platinum CD’s….sitting
real nice.
Jack
Linx: getting deeper into the business part of the
game, being an artist is just the tip of the iceberg.
17. Besides the new album, what else do you have going
on?
Frank
Jumbo: We got a small scene in a new TV show called
“Desires” so hopefully that takes off and we can have a recurring
role or something. Oh yeah, there’s that sausage and body oil
party jumpin off next month at my crib. Only pre-approved ladies
are invited and bring your appetite!!!
Abe
Froman: I’m working with the mayor’s office to have
a annual Abe Froman Citywide Beef & Beat BBQ every summer.
We’ll have performances from new Chicago acts, some national
acts and all the food you can eat. Oh…did I mentions the ladies?
