FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SMART BAR ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF NEW TALENT BUYER NATE SEIDER

Metro / Smart Bar owner Joe Shanahan is pleased to announce the appointment of Nate Seider as the new Smart Bar Talent Buyer. Nate joins the Smart Bar team this month as Talent Buyer, but if his name sounds familiar it’s because he’s been DJing at Smart Bar for many years prior under the moniker of Nate Manic. “Some of my very best and favorite gigs have been here with artists I respect immensely, such as Ian Pooley, Juan Atkins, Nouvelle Vague, the Dandy Warhols, TV on the Radio and Kaskade,” says Nate. “I can't even begin to explain how much this position and this club means to me.”
A Wisconsin native, Nate began DJing in 1997 while attending the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he had a full music scholarship to study voice. He started at Cardinal Dance club, opening for Minneapolis techno artist Woody McBride, and was quickly hooked. As his interest in DJing grew, so did his talent, and Nate was soon receiving attention from local promoters, national DJs and local hip hop artists with whom he supplied instrumentals.
After enjoying success in his college town, Nate set his sights on the city of Chicago. In 2000, Nate set off for Chicago to further pursue a music career, and was soon booked at a variety of clubs including Crobar, Zentra, Big Wig and would grow to become his favorite, Smart Bar. He was hired as the Music Director of Wicker Park hangout Moonshine, where he began to assert his musical tastes, booking up and coming local DJs.
An encounter with the Burning Man Festival, just outside Reno, Nevada, in 2003 would further impact Nate’s musical career. After attending the festival, he began to concentrate on more underground communities and along with DJ partner Duke Shin, achieved notoriety within the Burner community around the Midwest. In 2006, Nate founded Bad Advice Inc, a record label specializing in House, Tech House and Techno music. The label features production work not only from local legends Derrick Carter, Angel Alanis and Gene Farris, but also international talent including Full Phat, HeavyFeet and Cheap As Chimps. The label has been featured on sites including Stompy and Junodownload.
Now, Nate is ready to take on the challenge of booking Smart Bar. “It's just amazing to have such an historic and influential venue to put my talents and passion into, and I look forward to being the face of this club for years to come,” he says. “I can't wait to continue the tradition that Smart Bar has had of breaking new music and new artists, all while staying true to the roots, the masters and the people that have made Chicago into the Electronic-Music beacon that it is worldwide.”
About Smart Bar
Smart Bar is Chicago’s independent nightclub, celebrating over 25 years of showcasing new and exciting dance music and the most cutting edge DJ’s from around the globe. Smart Bar is located in the lower level of Metro, Chicago’s premier independent music venue, at 3730 North Clark Street.

SKINNY PUPPY NEW RELEASE DETAILS

Skinny Puppy is aware that there are a lot of rumors and questions going around about the state of the upcoming album. Their manager, Jeff, was kind enough to share this statement to explain what's going on and where they are at:::

I just wanted to attempt to make everyone aware of the current situation that Skinny Puppy is in. Due to the fact that SPV filed for insolvency earlier in the year the new Skinny Puppy LP will not be out in time for the tour. We have been in discussion with SPV and had hoped to find a solution to the mess they have put us in, but it looks as though things will not get sorted out until years end. We have meetings set with them in the near future and I hope to be able to let everyone know that things will be back on track soon. Songs have been recorded and artwork has been worked on and once we resolve the issues we have with SPV we will release them.

None of the issues with SPV will jeopardize this tour. The band is really excited to get out and play and we think this is going to be a tour to remember!!

Everybody in the Puppy camp wants to let you know that we always appreciate the support and we are looking forward to the "In Solvent See Tour" as much as any tour we have ever done.

Archie Powell & The Exports are a young group of midwestern miscreants looking to remind human beings what makes it all good and delicious. Offering a classic pop sensibility delivered with a stiff dose of feedback, the band's songs give off the impression of what it might have sounded like if Nirvana did a lot of Tom Petty Covers, or how Creedence Clearwater Revival could have ended up if John Fogerty wore glasses. Reviewers have their own ideas, making claims along the lines of them being much like "the better parts of Weezer and Bishop Allen" (The Project Lodge). Their debut effort, the "Loose Change EP", was released to the public as a free download and has been described as "loose, raw, and downright fun" (Bill's Music Forum) in addition to being "more than plain ole' rock and roll, it's a mini party in a 5-song EP" (Powerpopaholic). Catch Archie Powell & The Exports live before they enter the studio to record their full length follow-up this Winter.

SOULFUL SINGER TO RELEASE HER “NEARLY LOST” BLUE NOTE DEBUT SPILT MILK TODAY

Today, October 20, Blue Note Records will release Spilt Milk, the stunning debut album from singer Kristina Train. After a run of opening dates with Chris Isaak last month, Kristina is hitting the road again opening for Keb’ Mo’ and Susan Tedeschi, giving audiences around the country an early chance to hear her perform the affecting songs from her debut in a live setting.

“In showbiz you need flashy costumes and talent,” said Isaak. “I have the flashy costumes, Kristina has the talent! She is really an amazing singer. I am a fan like everybody else who hears her voice… She is that good.”

With Spilt Milk, Kristina—who was born in New York City and raised in Savannah, Georgia—has made an urbane, soulful, and lush debut that showcases her stunning voice. As a vocalist, she alternates between gentle balladeering and powerful belting, her bluesy vibrato revealing the breadth and elegance of a young Dusty Springfield — a little bit London, a little bit Memphis.

Interestingly, Kristina’s story is in many ways the inverse of Springfield’s. In her case it’s the soulful Southern girl with the awe-inspiring voice that heads toLondon to find inspiration and record her debut statement. Spilt Milk was recorded with Jimmy Hogarth, the sought-after British producer whose recent credits include Duffy, Corinne Bailey Rae, and James Blunt. Powerhouse songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and arranger Eg White (a Grammy Awards Record of the Year nominee earlier this year for Adele’s “Chasing Pavements”) co-wrote most of the songs with Kristina, who delivers them so convincingly that the words could be pages torn from her diary.

A potentially devastating turn of events during the recording sessions revealed a great deal about the determination and patience with which Kristina has pursued her dream. After having recorded most of the album, a disastrous computer glitch resulted in the deletion of nearly all the music that had been completed. What might have been a crushing blow to a lesser individual, Kristina instead turned into inspiration, rallying her cohorts and re-cutting the vanished material with even more passion. The experience even provided her with an album title, because there’s no sense in crying over spilt milk.

New York, NY – Motion City Soundtrack are giving fans a holiday season treat this year when they spend three nights at Chicago’s newest venue – Lincoln Hall – in December. The band will be taking a look back at their seven year career when they perform their first three albums in their entirety over three separate nights – I Am the Movie on the 18th, Commit This to Memory on the 19th and Even if it Kills Me on the 20th. Tickets will go on sale on Friday October 23rd at 12pm and fans will be able to buy a three show pass for $49.99 and a single show ticket for $20. Motion City Soundtrack – Justin Pierre, Joshua Cain, Matt Taylor, Tony Thaxton, and Jesse Johnson – wowed fans from the start with their 2002 debut I Am the Movie (Epitaph). The album features the undeniably catchy “The Future Freaks Me Out” (still a fan favorite) and earned them a tour with Blink-182 as well as a fateful friendship with Mark Hoppus. In 2004 the band asked Hoppus to produce their next album, 2005’s extremely successful Commit This to Memory(Epitaph). The album went on to sell more than 300,000 copies and garnered raves from Spin, Rolling Stone, and Entertainment Weekly among others. It also found the band making their late night TV debut on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. In 2007, MCS released Even If It Kills Me (Epitaph). Produced by Adam Schlesinger, Eli Janney and Ric Ocasek, the album debuted at #16 on the Top 200 Billboard Chart and earned them accolades from the media again including New York Times, SPIN and Blender as well as the cover of Alternative Press’ “Most Anticipated” issue.

Now it’s 2009 and the band will be taking a look back at the past seven years with their fans during this special three night engagement at Lincoln Hall. The event also comes on the heels of the band finishing up a new album – due out early next year and produced by their good friend Mark Hoppus. More news to come in the weeks ahead.

JUSTIN NOZUKA ANNOUNCES US TOUR

New York, NY – Toronto singer/songwriter Justin Nozuka has announced a Fall US tour that will round out the year on a high note, and will bring new music to eager fans across the country. The five-week tour will bring Nozuka and his band from New York on November 3rd at Webster Hall to Seattle’s Neumos on December 3rd, playing large clubs and theaters in Boston, DC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Austin, San Francisco and Los Angeles, to name a few, and visiting cities such as Omaha and Eugene, OR for the first time. See all tour dates below.

Nozuka’s 2009 has been very busy and included an early spring co-headlining US tour with Missy Higgins that wrapped with a performance on John Mayer’s second annual boat cruise, The Mayercraft Carrier II, where the singer shared the stage with O.A.R., Guster, and Mayer himself. Among headlining dates this year across France, the U.K., Japan and Canada as well, Nozuka had time to work on his sophomore album, entitled GRAY, for Glassnote Records, which is expected to be released next year. He has been recording the album with Bill Bell, who also produced Justin’s debut, Holly. On this tour fans can expect to hear a number of brand new songs, which Justin has never played live in the US.

The second album is almost complete,” says Nozuka. “It's been a long while in the making, and I'm so pleased with how it's all feeling. More then ever, I'm excited to be coming out on the road again and to have the opportunity to make music with my guys, and to spread it throughout. It's all very exciting!

Nozuka’s sparsely produced debut is intimate, immediate, and passionate, and garnered much attention from fans and the US media alike. The video for the first single, “After Tonight,” quickly moved up in rotation at VH1 to be the #1 most played video, and even garnered Justin a stamp of approval from the music channel when it named him a “You Oughta Know” artist. mtvU also embraced the young star and played his “After Tonight” video so often that Nozuka was asked to perform at the 2008 mtvU Woodies pre-show. Entertainment Weekly dubbed Nozuka a “most promising male singer/songwriter,” and he performed the song on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Good Morning America NOW. Nozuka’s talent and relentless touring is paying off across the globe as well. His debut, which was recorded when he was only 17, earned him a Juno (Canadian Grammy) nomination for Best New Artist, and the album is now certified Gold in France.

What the press says about Justin Nozuka:

“Nozuka has a gift of being sensitive without cloying, pleading without whining. His vocals have a beautifully immediate quality; there’s no artifice to be heard. Every now and then you don’t have to choose between the guy with the stunning talent and the guy who can give you a platinum hit. Nozuka is both, and as close to a sure bet as there is in the music industry. See him now in a club before you can only see him in the arena.” – Paste

“The arrangements across [Holly] are absolutely inspired, and range from spare to lavish, all are blues based, but incorporate pop, folk, nods to the Bristol sound, even flamenco into the mix. A stunning debut, whose lyrics and atmospheres linger on long after the last (hidden) track has played.” – All Music Guide

“This 19-year-old impresses with the acoustic pop-soul on his debut.” – PEOPLE

“He’s just a teenager, but this American-born Canadian-bred singer-songwriter’s vocals are as soulful and wise as blues greats four times his age.” – Teen Vogue

Phish's Festival 8 Set For October 30, 31 And November 1 At The Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA; Websites Fuel Debate About Which Classic Album
The Band Will Cover In Its Special Halloween Set

Phish's fall tour will kick off at Detroit's Cobo Arena on November 18th. It will include three shows at New York City's Madison Square Garden (December 2, 3 & 4) and conclude at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA on December 5th. An online ticket request period is currently underway at http://phish.portals.musictoday.com/. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on October 23rd and 24th. Festival 8, Phish's eighth festival and its first ever on the West Coast, will take place on October 30, 31 and November 1 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA. New details about the event continue to be unveiled at http://phish.com/festival8. Given Phish's long-standing Halloween tradition of donning a "musical costume" and performing a classic album from another band, speculation is rampant as to which album the band will play during its "Halloween set," scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31. Rolling Stone readers have shared their picks (http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/07/27/readers-rock-list-what-album-should-phish-cover-for-halloween/) and the band has begun to reveal which albums it won't be playing. The process of elimination is underway at http://phish.com/festival8/halloween/index.html, where fans can view the gallery of contenders and watch as album covers are bludgeoned by an unseen slasher.Phish has promised to play "the last record left alive."

In the first of three performances on Sunday, November 1,
Phish will play its first-ever full-length acoustic set. Coffee and donuts will be served during this "breakfast" show. The band will give a total of eight performances during the three-day celebration, which also features on-site camping and numerous attractions and art installations. For ticket information and additional details about Festival 8, visit http://www.phish.com/festival8/.

In a four-star review,
Rolling Stone called Phish's latest record, Joy, "a genuinely great album" while The New York Times noted: "their pleasure at collaborating again comes through every song 'Joy' celebrates friendships, continuity and shared memories with quick-fingered glee."
Recorded with Steve Lillywhite, who produced the band's Billy Breathes (1996) and albums by U2, Dave Matthews Band and the Rolling Stones
, Joy was the first non-archival release on JEMP Records, an independent record label created in 2005 by the members of Phish. The label's initial function was to release live concerts in CD, DVD and digital formats from the band's extensive archives, which are located in Burlington, VT.

Phish - comprising lead guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell - has released 11 studio albums as well as a series of 44 complete live concert CDs. Its series of 138 full concert downloads is currently available onlivephish.com.

The debut comes amidst a flurry of activity surrounding the band, including heavy radio and video airplay (the "Check My Brain" video is currently featured on MTV2’s Elite 8), a sold-out U.S. buzz tour, and back-to-back performances on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last Tuesday and Wednesday.

The album has also been drawing rave reviews from both sides of the pond: Playboy gave it four stars, calling it "Alice In Chains’ Back In Black." NPR’s "All Things Considered" lauded the album for being "unexpectedly vibrant" and sounding "liberated." Entertainment Weekly praised its "…vertigo-inducing hard rock riffology, fevered acoustic ruminations, and gloomy proclamations, delivered with admirable force and brio." Metal Hammer called it "a masterpiece" and "Alice In Chains’ finest hour." Kerrang! described the record as "spine-chilling" and HITS magazine called it "…one of the year’s most, if not exactly pleasant, certainly gratifying surprises."

Next up is an October 30th performance on NBC’s "The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien," followed by a trio of headlining radio dates in Texas, and then a headlining tour of Europe, set to kick off November 12th in Glasgow.

Alice In Chains is guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, guitarist/vocalist William DuVall, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney.

LAST MINUTE CHANGE OF VENUE FOR KYLIE MINOGUE IN CHICAGO ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 7TH

Kylie Minogue’s first ever show in Chicago this Wednesday October 7th is being moved at the last minute to theUIC Pavilion (University of Illinois at Chicago: 525 S Racine Ave., Chicago, IL 60607-3303)!

The Spectacular, originally scheduled to be staged at the Congress Theatre, sold out months ago but the sheer scale of the production just won’t fit into the Congress, necessitating the upgrade.

The promoters apologize to any fans inconvenienced by this last minute change. The good news is that UICPavilion will showcase Kylie better. The downtown venue is more accessible for most fans and the move has created a release of additional tickets for those previously disappointed.

All tickets purchased for the Congress Theatre show will be honored at UIC Pavilion. Newly opened tickets will be available atTicketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets beginning today, Sunday, October 4, 2009, at3p.m. CDT. Tickets will also be available at UIC Pavilion Box Office, on the day of show only, beginning at 6 p.m.

This was easily the best show I’ve seen in Oakland, and may be the best for some time. Kylie Minogue is a great performer, and the entire show is so much bigger than the room, it can blow away anyone who might come into contact with it. I’m glad to have been there, ... go for it. You won’t be disappointed. SPINNING PLATTERS -Thursday 1st October 2009

It’s impossible to describe the full spectacle of the Kylie experience...The fact that she fit it all into a relatively intimate venue was a marvel unto itself. The show seemed to have been designed to be visible from the moon...it was one thrill after another, especially for the fans who had waited so long for this moment... SANFRANCISCO CHRONICLE –Friday October 2, 2009
