“Music is the soul of the man.”-Marvin Gaye
Nicole’s favorite thing about music is its ability to transcend generations and cultures. Music has the ability to shift moods and take you back to a certain place and time and I think that there are very few things that serve as such a large outlet as music.
As a senior at DePaul University studying Journalism, she loves finding ways to infuse her love for music with her love for writing. Writing and music both have been large influences in her life and have helped to shape the person she has become and will continue to shape me as she grows.
With such a vast pool of amazing artists and music genres to dive into, it’s hard to pick any favorites. She is, however, constantly gravitating towards artists within the jazz, blues and hip hop worlds with artists such as Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Otis Redding, Erykah Badu, Tribe Called Quest, Blockhead, Amy Winehouse, Rakim, Fleetwood Mac, MF DOOM and RJD2 at the top of my long flowing list.
“As the world and culture changes throughout the years it’s so interesting to see how music morphs along with it and I can’t wait to see where it goes next. Hopefully, I’ll be right there with my pen and pad writing on everything I can.“
