The reviews
Kathleen writes may not be filled with technical analysis and
musical theory; the Chicago Music Guide has professionals for
that, thank you. What Kathleen discusses covers the visceral
reactions to music. Beat, tempo, cadence, lyrical styles, mood,
are areas of music review which beg for listener commentary.
Additionally,
as Kathleen takes artistic journeys while listening or watching
musical performance, she is able to communicate the audience
and individual reactions to the sound experience. She believes,
when one makes art, the first pieces can be the most honest
but filled with technical folly. As one learns, one finds greater
technical ability but lacquer their work with false depth. As
the artist grows, they find their way back to the honesty. If
the art is successful, the artist has found both honesty and
married it with learned skill. So it is with art. So it is with
music. So it is with life.
